Scientific Overview

As a stronger detergent than cholate (owing to one fewer hydroxyl group), sodium deoxycholate more aggressively disrupts lipid membranes, making it effective for both cell lysis/protein extraction protocols and, in its purified injectable form (as deoxycholic acid), for adipocyte membrane disruption in cosmetic submental fat reduction treatments.
